Locus of control is considered a personality trait. While people who believe they have control over their lives are internally focused, those who think that they are under the control of external factors act with a focus on external control. Locus of control is a subject that has been studied for many years in psychology, education, and business disciplines. The research in the field of business has focused on how the locus of control affects business outcomes. International academic studies also examine how individuals' locus of control differs among various cultures.
This study will consider how internal control-oriented behaviors differ among young white-collar workers in Turkey and India and analyze the results according to Hofstede's Cultural Dimensions Theory (individualism, uncertainty avoidance, etc.). Thus, an empirical study on locus of control will be carried out for the first time between these two countries.
This research aims to determine the perceptions of young white-collar office workers between the ages of 25-40 in Turkey and India about the internal locus of control regarding demographic variables, country, and cultural differences. The research will focus on two main questions:
1) Revealing the attitudes of employees in both countries on internal locus of control,
2) Analysis of the results, especially considering the cultural dimensions of Geert Hofstede.
In order to answer the above research questions, a questionnaire will be applied to around 500 people (office staff in New Delhi, Ankara, and Istanbul) in both countries. Quantitative data obtained from the research will be subjected to parametric multivariate analysis. Factor analysis, structural equation modeling (SEM), regression or MANOVA, and similar parametric analyzes will be conducted accordingly.
It is assumed that employees with internal control will contribute to organizational citizenship as more responsible individuals in businesses. Therefore, as a result of this project, it will be possible for our service sector companies to progress in terms of employee productivity and job satisfaction. In addition, the findings can be directly used by the management of small, medium, and large-sized companies in their decisions and policies regarding employee productivity.
